How content writing for web design can increase your Google search rankings

Tips and Hints on web design content writing

Website Design and Layout

Welcome to CWC My Web Design.  You have everything you need to start making your own professional website at your fingertips.  Here are some hints and tips on how to layout your design in a professional, user friendly way:

The head (top) of the page is the attention grabber.  Here is where you place some eye catching images and introduce what the page is about.    A summary of what you are going to talk about.  On your homepage you would have an overall summary of what your business does. On other pages a summary of those particular pages contents.

You could also add some basic contact information at the very top of the page, and you would do this on all pages. Navigation Links at the top of all pages is a must. Try to keep your website uniform and easy to navigate.  If you have a larger website, write down the subject of each page or even better, a diagram, and then add sub categories for subpages as needed. A typical website would have 5 basic pages:

  • Homepage
  • Services
  • About Us
  • Blog
  • Contact Us
And any other pages you will create or have a subheadings under the above pages.
When adding images it is a good idea to compress them before upload them onto your site.  It helps with page load speed, which helps with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and also increases the chances a user will go to your website.  How many times have you decided to go somewhere else when a page takes too much time to load?  Here is a link to an online image compressor: (When opening links right click on the link then select “Open in new tab or window”)

CWC My Web Design also has custom design and more in depth website features, such as professional ecommerce and website solutions, if our web builder does not meet your requirements at an additional cost, ask us about it and we can have you talking to a professional web developer and designer in no time.

Your text content and a guide to website content writing will be explained next.  A well written website gets customers and viewers engaged and most importantly it helps boost your search rankings in search engines such as Google and Bing.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) & Marketing

SEO is the process of giving your site a better chance to be found on search engines.  SEO takes time, when you first index your site on Google (which you can do in our web builder), Google starts the process of scanning your site, and this can take up to a month.  Then over time, and depending how well you have written your content and optimized your site for page loading, it can take between 4 – 12 months for your site to start seeing meaningful traffic.

This does not mean you can’t get people viewing your site straight away as there are other ways to get traffic, such as advertising with Google AdWords and Bing AdWords (which give you free advertising credits) and social media advertising such as Facebook (you can also advertise on numerous free groups on Facebook, just type in “business advertising” in the Facebook search bar then click on the “Groups” tab) , Twitter etc.

There are also numerous other ways including classifieds websites such as Gumtree, Google My Business, Bing Places, and Yellow Pages.  Google and Bing Business and Places are especially good, because it allows your business to be found when people are searching for local businesses on Google.  When you search, usually on the right hand side there are a number of businesses that show up for your local area, as Google knows your location.  Yours will come up here.  And it’s FREE!

Bing and Google AdWords require some knowledge of advertising, such as the use of keywords and target marketing, and if you are not accustomed to these, you might be best hiring a marketer, CWC My Web Design also helps with marketing for an additional fee per month, ask us about it.
As I have mentioned above there is either waiting for search engines to index your site over time (free) or getting immediate results through advertising (paid).  You are better off making sure your site is properly set up for SEO first before paying for advertising, as if you fail to do so, you can miss out on a lot of free traffic down the track.
When you search for a website in Google or Bing, your search results will appear.  The top search results are Google and Bing AdWords and usually have “Sponsored” or “Ad” included.  Below is what we call natural or organic, and these are the search results that are more important for your website and business to gain meaningful income, leads and viewers.
Content writing takes practice.  Here are some guidelines.  These tips will help you gain rankings in search engines.
The first step is to search for keywords.  Spend a little time researching keywords at http://keywordtool.io/
Enter the word that best describes your business and what you do.
Think of what you would search for if you were looking for your site.
There are two types of keywords: one word and keyword phrases which contains multiple keywords.  Add these keywords and phrases to your website pages.  For example if your business was high heel shoes, you would add the following paragraph (I have marked the keywords in green):
“We sell high heel shoes.  They are affordable and durable.  Our online shoe store sells only the highest quality shoes at affordable prices.” So you would repeat this for every subject on every page.  If one of your pages is about a particular subject, you would research keywords for that particular subject.  Try not to stuff as many keywords as you can in though as search engines can mark your website as spam.  Add 3 -4 of the same type of keyword on each page.

When typing in headings, add keywords in to headings as well.  Search engines use headings as an indication of what your site is about.  Headings usually describe what the following paragraph is going to be about.
And try to keep your headings at least 15 characters long.
If you would like your site to be locally found, such as businesses that can only operate locally, such as a computer repair business, add locations to your text, such as your city or suburb etc.
ADD A BLOG!! – Blogs are a great way to add new keywords, and Google loves sites that change regularly, so start blogging!!!
So the three main factors for good SEO are:
  • Page load and speed
  • Content writing
  • Mobile responsive design (you don’t need to worry about this as our web builder does this
  • automatically.)
Conclusion Page layout, content writing and page loading should be emphasised when creating your website.  The above information should be considered and will help get your website found on search engines.  Remember free or natural SEO takes time so have patience.  In the meantime there are paid alternatives and free that will get you instant results.  If you have any questions, contact us and we will be glad to help
